March Learning Conferences
This letter was sent out in an email from the school last week. I included it here for you in case you missed it. Please sign up for a time that works for your family. The conferences will be the same format as in October. I know we were all wishing things could be different but we can make the best of it and meet online! I am looking to forward to sharing and celebrating your child’s progress with you!
Student-Parent-Teacher Conferences (Grades 1-5)
Student-Parent-Teacher Conferences will be on Tuesday, March 2 3:30-7:00 and Thursday, March 4 3:30-7:00. In-person meetings are not feasible, we will again be holding virtual conferences VIA GOOGLE MEET. Instructions on how to set up your conference time using our SCHOOL INTERVIEW scheduler will be emailed on February 12, 2021.
Math: Problem Solving fun
At the end of last week, the students gathered in small learning teams to practice their problem solving skills. They did a great job of cooperating and came up with many ways to approach the problem. It is always great when they get to share their math ideas.
Here is a sample of the problem just in case you would like to give it a try as a family. It is also on our Google Classroom with a Google Jamboard document to help share your solution if you wish.

Addition and Subtraction
Our class started a mathematics unit on addition and subtraction. Your child will develop strategies for adding and subtracting whole numbers by using addition charts, mental math, estimation, Base Ten Blocks, place-value mats, and pencil and paper.
In this unit, your child will:
- Recall basic addition and subtraction facts
- Identify and apply relationships between addition and subtraction
- Add and subtract 2-digit numbers
- Use mental math to add and subtract
- Estimate sums and differences
- Add and subtract 3-digit numbers
The ability to use a variety of strategies to add and subtract leads to the development of a strong sense of number. I will post the strategies that we are learning as we move through the unit.
Math: Thinking Together
We worked in groups to solve this problem today. The kids had a fun and they were very good at cooperating with each other. Well done grade three!
